Optical Conversion Unit, OCU, is an SCSI hardware caching interface foroptical disks. The OCU supports WORM, rewritable, and multi-functionoptical drives, as well as selected jukebox systems for SPARC(TM) systemusers. The OCU makes the optical disk appear just like a standard harddisk to users, eliminating the need for system specific software drivers.Features include firmware or hardware data compression (with typicalcompression ratios of 2:1 to 5:1), data caching, and access to historicaldata through a timestamp feature.
